Elearning to create a respectful culture
Situation
Cingular Wireless recognized that creating a respectful and inclusive culture for a broad spectrum of diversity in both employees and customers is directly linked to its business success.
Process
ProGroup was working to develop its elearning tool, Everyday Diversity when Cingular approached us with a desire to customize an e-learning program to meet its identified diversity needs. Through a collaborative relationship, members of Cingular's project team participated in user testing, providing input used to enhance the program's user-friendly features and measure the effectiveness of its content in addressing diversity and respectful workplace behaviors. Similarly, Cingular's team worked with ProGroup's subject matter experts and facilitation team to develop the customized managers program for multicultural teams.

ProGroup worked with members of Cingular's team to identify their needs and the technology requirements. We partnered with their team and a technology vendor to write a highly interactive basic elearning program. Throughout the process, Cingular had designated approvals and sign-offs and the product was tested by an internal user group. Development of the management program followed the same process in its creation, including conducting Train-the-Trainer Certification programs. The program is ongoing and has been well received across the organization.
Solution
ProGroup offered Cingular Everyday Diversity(c), a customized, computer-based, employee diversity training program, which defines and establishes the business case for diversity and explains how it differs from EEO/AA. This interactive e-learning tool leads participants through various dimensions of diversity and highlights Cingular's expectations concerning respectful behaviors. ProGroup also created a customized manager training program to address the different working styles of employees, utilizing the DiSC Classic assessment. In this program, managers identify their own work style, learn how to effectively build trust, and the necessary communication skills in order to create and manage high-performing multicultural teams, leveraging their employees'
strengths and modifying their own work style to manage more effectively.
Results
The two programs were successfully rolled out, first to a core group and then throughout the organization. Subsequent Master Train-the-Trainer Certification programs were conducted to enable Cingular to maintain a team of qualified trainers. To date, Cingular has trained a large percentage of its employees using Everyday Diversity. Because the
program is available on demand 24/7, new and existing employees can participate in the program whenever necessary or desired. Individually or in groups, the program's flexibility allows divisions, departments, or individual managers to use the program as required. Cingular continues to conduct the customized managers program throughout the organization with outstanding results.
