Disability Employment Awareness Month begins with a stellar finish
Have you heard of the SI Curse? The Madden Curse? How about the Diversity Calendar Victory Dance?
Some superstitious sports fans say that when an athlete or team makes an appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated, or is featured on the box of the Madden Football video game, that athlete or team suddenly has a bad season.
ProGroup is proud of our Honoring Differences diversity calendar and we like to keep tabs on the many people pictured in its pages. We were delighted to see that October 2006's featured photo subject, Marla Runyan, won the Twin Cities Marathon! She finished with a time of 2:32:17; and her 30K time was good enough for a U.S. record.
Well, ignoring prevailing trends in athletic-photo-coincidences and bringing good fortune to people is part of our business! Plus, ProGroup is based in Minneapolis, MN, which makes Marla's victory pure kismet: in the same month she is featured in our diversity calendar for Disability Employment Awareness Month, a woman with a disability wins a major event in her sport in our home city. Coincidence? We think not. Congratulations, Marla!
